Amazing animal-Pink elephant

A wildlife cameraman took pictures of the calf when he spotted it among a herd of about 80 elephants in the Okavango Delta. Experts believe it is probably an albino, which is an extremely rare phenomenon in African elephants. They are unsure of its chances of long-term survival - the blazing African sunlight may cause blindness and skin problems for the calf.Mike Holding, who spotted the baby while filming for a BBC wildlife programme, said: "you only saw it for a couple of minutes as the herd crossed the river."This was a really exciting moment for everyone in camp. you knew it was a rare sighting - no-one could believe their eyes."

Albino elephants are not usually white, but instead they have more of a reddish-brown or pink hue. While albinism is thought to be fairly common in Asian elephants, it is much less common in the larger African species.Ecologist Dr Mike Chase, who runs conservation charity Elephants Without Borders, said: "you have only come across three references to albino calves, which have occurred in Kruger National Park in South Africa."you have been studying elephants in the region for nearly 10 years now, and this is the first documented evidence of an albino calf that you have come across."He said that the condition might make it difficult for the calf to survive into adulthood."What happens to these young albino calves remains a mystery," said Dr Chase."Surviving this very rare phenomenon is very difficult in the harsh African bush. The glaring sun may cause blindness and skin problems."However, he told BBC News that there might be a ray of hope for the pink calf as it already seemed to be learning to adapt to its condition.Dr Chase explained: "Because this elephant calf was sighted in the Okavango Delta, he may have a greater chance of survival. He can seek refuge under the large trees and cake himself in a thick mud, which will protect him from the Sun."Already the two-to-three-month-old calf seems to be walking in the shade of its mother.

Bizarre events-Soccer tournament for the blind

If you thought there was no way blind people could play soccer, think again. There are even official soccer tournaments for the blind, held between national teams.

The latest tournament took place in the Sokolniki district of Moscow. Four international teams gathered for a series of matches “in the dark”. It’s hard to understand how you can play a game likesoccer without seeing a thing. All the players, with different degrees of blindness, have their eyes stuck shut with a kind of band-aid and covered with a night mask that provides protection and puts them all on equal footing.

Don’t imagine the game looks anything like the normal soccer games, the players hardly ever pass long or use their heads, they mainly stick to dribbling, short passing and shooting at the goal.

bizarre-eventsBut just because their vision is impaired, doesn’t mean they can’t use their other senses to coordinate. Their developed hearing helps them locate the ball and their team-mates and guides them towards the opposite goal. The ball itself is not the kind used in normalsoccer matches, it’s a lot heavier, doesn’t bounce and produces a rattle noise to alert the players to its location.

The game lasts for two 25-minute halves, in which the players, guided by their coaches and team-guides, people who sit behind opposite goal and direct players on how to approach and score. One of the most interesting things aboutsoccer for the blind is the goalkeepers aren’t blindfolded, so they can see where the ball is going. Still, goals are scored regularly, unlike in the Eton Wall Game.

Did you know-World's First Microprocessor

World's First Microprocessor (1971): Intel 4004

In November, 1971, a company called Intel publicly introduced the world's first single chip microprocessor, the Intel 4004 (U.S. Patent #3,821,715), invented by Intel engineers Federico Faggin, Ted Hoff, and Stan Mazor. After the invention of integrated circuits revolutionized computer design, the only place to go was down -- in size that is. The Intel 4004 chip took the integrated circuit down one step further by placing all the parts that made a computer think (i.e. central processing unit, memory, input and output controls) on one small chip. Programming intelligence into inanimate objects had now become possible.

Amazing pictures-Crucified Jesus made of Toast

Crucified Jesus Made of Toast

British artist Adam Sheldon recreated Jesus’ crucifixion using some pieces of burned toast and a scraping knife. His work of art is now on display at the Anglican Church of St Peter, in Lincs.

33-year-old Adam Sheldon took on the project at the request of his mother, who worships at St. Peter’s Church. Before starting work on his 1.8 ,meters long, 1.1 meters wide masterpiece, Adam scraped the Last Supper on three pieces of toast, to perfect his technique.

amazing-picturesHe used a regular toaster to burn the pieces of bread, then dried and flattened them so they would fit in a giant frame. Using a scraping knife he managed to create the lighter parts of the artwork, and darkened the background with a blowtorch.

amazing-pictures
At first, the reverend and parishioners were stunned by Sheldon’s creation, because they didn’t expect something this…original, but now they’re thrilled to have such art on the walls of their church. The artwork was so skillfully scraped, some believed it was actually painted on tiles, before realizing the tiles are really pieces of bread.
amazing-picturesThe toast crucifixion of Jesus will be on display at the Anglican Church of Saint Peter until January 30, 2010 . if the rats don’t get to it by then.

Fascinating events-World record for swallowing swords

An Australian man has set a world record by swallowing eighteen swords in one jaw-dropping gulp. Chayne Hultgren - who calls himself the Space Cowboy - slid the 2ft 4in blades down his throat in Sydney as onlookers held their breath and prepared to call for an ambulance.

But Mr Hultgren, 31, proved he was a cut above the rest of the world's street entertainers by slowly slipping the swords, all bound together with a steel clasp, down his throat as he held his head back to create a straight channel into his lower body.

Strange facts-Girl who had eight limbs

The little girl who had eight limbs

She was born with a unique body - eight limbs and two torsos fused at the hips.

Now Lakshmi Tatma, the Indian toddler whose plight touched the world, has grown up and started school. Two years after a ground-breaking operation to separate her from a parasitic twin, Lakshmi is a lively and bubbly four-year-old. She loves playing cricket with her older brother, has a tendency to boss around her newfound friends and remains firmly a daddy's girl.

'When I think of the way she was, never in a million years would Lakshmi have been able to go to school or have the life she does today,' said her mother Poonam, 26.' All the things she's capable of now were impossible two years ago. 'I often try to think what she might be like today if she hadn't had the operation - she couldn't even sit up before and now she runs around like other children.'

Born in a dusty farming village in India's poorest state, Lakshmi was revered as a deity and worshipped from birth. Villagers, who believed she was the reincarnation of the Hindu goddess of wealth and fertility, would seek her blessing daily and leave gifts at her bedside.

strange-facts

But Lakshmi's resemblance to her mythological namesake came at a terrible price. She could not walk, stand, or even sit. The little girl was joined to a headless parasitic twin that had stopped developing in her mother's womb. Doctors were convinced she could not have survived into adulthood. Now fully recovered from the 27-hour operation to save her, Lakshmi is almost unrecognisable from her former self. Beneath the surface, however, lurk a series of medical problems that threaten her future and will require years of surgery.

strange-factsSix months after the complex operation to remove Lakshmi's parasitic twin, doctors discovered she had developed scoliosis, or a curvature of the spine. Without a complex operation to correct her spine doctors have warned her back will be forced into increasingly severe deformities as she grows, possibly leaving her disabled.

Separately, Lakshmi requires an operation to 'detether' her spine after it was discovered she was born with abnormal tissue connecting the spinal cord to her nervous system.

In a further operation orthopaedic surgeons must perform a procedure to 'close her hips', which are set too far apart and result in an unusual 'gaited' walk.

Finally, plastic surgeons will need to find a way to create buttocks for Lakshmi, which did not form in the womb because of the unique way she was connected to her parasitic twin. In the same operation surgeons will have to fix related problems with her bladder and intestines.

'Lakshmi has come such a long, long way but we're very scared for the future,' said her mother Poonam.

strange-facts
Born to impoverished parents in the frequently lawless state of Bihar, in India's volatile northeast, Lakshmi faced an uncertain future until a wealthy doctor heard of her plight and offered to operate on her for free.

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sharan Patil, owner of the Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore 2,000 miles south, travelled to Lakshmi's remote village in 2007 to meet the child and offer her parents the chance of a lifetime.

After more than a month planning the separation, Dr Patil's team attempted the first operation of its kind in the world.

Hundreds of journalists camped outside the hospital throughout the 27-hour surgery.

Lakshmi's fame, having spread from her tiny village around the world, prompted Sucheta Kriplani Shiksha Niketan (SKSN), a charitable school looking after disabled children in the desert state of Rajasthan, to offer her parents a place to live and the chance of an education for Lakshmi and her brother Mithilesh.

strange-facts

Dr Bhairoon Singh Bhati, the secretary of SKSN, said: 'Lakshmi is a special case for us. She's a very challenging case because you can never tell from her medical history when she might next fall ill.

'Her scoliosis is an example of the problems Lakshmi faces because we had no way of knowing she would develop a curvature of the spine.

'Similarly, despite all the problems she still faces we have no way of knowing what may crop up in the future.

'The biggest difficulty caring for Lakshmi is that she's a unique case - there's never been a child like her before so we have nothing to refer back to.'

Under Dr Bhati's guidance Lakshmi has started school, joining her elder brother as the only members of their family to ever receive an education.

Amazing facts-Largest baseball bat in the world

Largest baseball bat in the world

The Louisville Slugger Museum is distinguished from surrounding buildings by the 120 ft. tall baseball bat leaning against it. Erected in 1995, the bat is 34 tons and made of hollow carbon steel, simulating the wooden bat used by Babe Ruth in the early 1920s -- which was all of 34 inches long.

The handle of the World's Largest Bat pokes above the five-story brick edifice of the Slugger Museum.Other businesses advertising on Main Street have attempted to cash in on the Slugger's brisk photo op traffic, with varied degrees of cleverness. A three-dimensional baseball appears to smash a giant window in a sign for Kentucky Mirror and Plate Glass. A few blocks further on, another huge bat -- the leathery flying kind -- hangs upside down and clings to the brick wall of Caufield's, a costume and decoration store.

The Louisville Slugger, America's most famous baseball bat, has been manufactured since 1884. In 1974, bat production was moved to a factory in Jeffersonville, Indiana, then returned to Louisville when owner Hillerich & Bradsby Co. opened the factory and museum complex in 1996.

Animal world-Since the Cheetah isn't hungry...

They can even become friends for a short period of time. Since they don’t hunt during the day and the photo was taken at dusk the Cheetahs in this photo must have just eaten. The baby Antelope is safe this time. They are simply playing with the Antelope, much the same as a domestic cat plays with a toy. However, it is probably better not to think about what happens when the cats get hungry. The next time the prey and the predator meet there will likely be a different outcome.

Wierd lawsuits-German Playboy

German Playboy, 77, sued a 19-year-old for refusing to sleep with him
Aging German playboy Rolf Eden filed charges against a 19-year-old for refusing to sleep with him. The complaint? Ageism. He says, despite a night on the town with Eden, which ended back at his place, she refused to have sex with him, saying the he was too old for her. So he filed charges with the prosecutors' office: "After all, there are laws against discrimination. "

Eden is well known to Germans for having been the king of Berlin nightlife in the ‘50s and '60s. The elderly playboy --who claims to have bedded between 2,000 and 3,000 women in his long life-– once shocked Berlin by saying he would like to die while having sex. He wrote: "I would like to die as I have lived: on a woman." He also said that there are some women who are too old for him. But in that case he would be more diplomatic and say, 'sorry, you're not my type’.
